NH&R assists in the re-homing of 12-15 Newfs per year. Sometimes the dogs are completely healthy and sometimes they're in desperate need of veterinary care.

Who we are...NH&R is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our mission is to find homes for displaced purebred Newfoundlands. The Newfoundland Club of Northern California (NCNC) formed its rescue committee in the late 70s. At that time, our rescue committee consisted of 2 dedicated women, Deanna Souza and Linda Lyman. In the early eighties, breed clubs, specifically breeders, generally didn't have much regard for rescue efforts. Most offered little, if any support. Their feeling was that they didn't really need to help as they knew where all their puppies were. Besides, who wants to bring some strange dog into their home with "God-only-knows" what germs or bad habits they might have. The "committee" was pretty much on its own to patrol shelters and follow up on phone calls. Read the rest of our history here...
