Surrendering a Newf

Placing your newf in rescue

Surrendering your Newfie is a difficult decision. We're here to help!

We don't care why. It's not relevant. What is relevant is that you and your Newf need help. That's what we do. Your story will not be on the 6 o'clock news. We simply want the best solution for everyone!

We recommend that you contact your breeder first. Reputable breeders care about their dogs and will provide as much help as they can. Your breeder might have a waiting list of people who would love to have your dog. Call them!

If they can't help - call us!

The Surrender Process

Contact NH&R

Contact Us! We will help you through the process and make it as effortless as we can.

Evaluate your options

Surrendering your pet may not be your only option. We have an expert behaviorist who will be more than happy to help.

If you reach the decision that surrendering your Newf is the best option for everyone, then...

Complete and sign a Transfer Agreement

We are unable to accept dogs that are co-owned unless all co-owners sign the agreement.

We will request that you turn the registration over with the dog to rescue. Also include any purchase contract or bill of sale you received with the dog.

If AKC registration papers are not available or the dog is registered with another registry, please be prepared to show evidence that the dog is a purebred.

Stuff that will help the process

Locate your dogs AKC Registration paperwork

Contact your Newfs veterinarian for a copy of your dogs vaccination and medical records

Please consider updating vaccinations or neutering your dog, if needed. All Newfs will be spayed or neutered before placement. Our rescue effort is funded entirely by donations and is staffed by volunteers.

Write up a summary of your dog including any information that would be useful to a new owner

Include information such as: feeding (type of food, frequency of feeding), treats enjoyed, favorite toys, habits (both good and bad), likes and dislikes (likes kids, chases cats, etc.), any training your dog has had, etc.

Honesty

We are here to help and the only way we can help is for you to be completely honest with the issues you're having.
